Like I said in the previous post, cable can be faster. Though its not promised to you. It has potenial to be faster, but if others in your paticular area have it then your actually sharing a connection with them which would make it a lot slower, even slower then DSL in some cases.
DSL is a steady connection that will always be the same, and its cheaper as of now.
Speed honestly shouldnt be a huge concern either unless your downloading larger amounts of movies or files off the net. Remeber a lot of ppl who just "browse the internet" and talk on messenger type deals think they need a fast connection. Thats not really the case, AOL which is just dial up in most areas is one of the most popular providers because of their web browswer and messenger. Your using very little of your connection if your just browsing sites on the net.
To be honest I was better satisfied with dial up than Adelphia. It may be slower but it worked.
I like my cable internet....occasional outage have it 8 or 9 months, out on us less than 5 times and then only for an hour or so....my dad preaches by his dsl though
My experience with Verizon DSL is limited to my workplace. We're a little far out to be really speedy, but we do get decent service. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 500 down, 250 up.
I've had Adelphia at home for about a year and a half. For most of the 8 months, my speeds were hanging around 2600 down, 300 up. They've been around 1800-2100 down, 300 up since.
But for $45 a month, it just isn't worth it. I need to do a little additional research on Verizon, but I will more than likely be switching in the next six months. I just dread moving all of my files over to a new server.
I had Adelphia for awhile and really had no problem But word of advice for anybody thinking about getting it: Get the self install package....not worth waiting to have some cable guy come out to do it when he gets ready. 6 steps that take you less than 10 minutes, and you're ready to go.
A have had no problem with my Cable but it is expensave if DSL was avalable at my home that is the direction I would take ( A co-worker of mine has adelphia cable in Danville and tells me the regular price there is $29 per month if that is the case we are truly getting hosed)
You have to call & ask for it, but if you like Adelphia but want a cheaper service, ask for their DSL-Speed service.
That's what I have - can't really tell the difference if you ask me (for most practical internet uses).
I pay less than $20/month for it I believe.
The $29/month price is either a promotional, or one of the lower-speed services.
The regular-priced full-speed service in Blacksburg is $45/month.
Thanks I will have to check that out
I can't get DSL. They don't offer it.
